*We make our 1 1/2"X 3 1/2” to fit standard 2X4 Studs (lumber) and our 3 1/2”X 5 1/2” to fit standard 4X6 pressure treated post (measuring 3 1/2” X 5 1/2”).

*We make our 2”X 4” and 4”X 6” to fit true dimensional full size lumber, often called rough cut.

3.) Do you have a storefront?

We do not offer an actual company storefront.

4.) Can I cut/trim my post caps?

No.

5.) How do I install my post caps?

Installation of post caps varies depending on use. Fencing manufacturers will drive our caps over the steel posts and secure them with one screw tapped into the tubing or spot weld the caps on, or drive them on for a tight snug fit.  Our caps are very hard to remove from the steel tubing once driven on with a rubber mallet.  Some companies will glue, generally epoxy the caps on.  With wood, most people use some form of glue or silicone caulk to adhere our caps to the post or lumber. The caps can also have holes drilled in the skirt walls and then be fastened on by screws.

6.) Where are your post caps made?

All of our products are proudly made here in the United States at our manufacturing plant in Hartford Kentucky.

816 Oakwood Drive
Hartford, KY 42347

7.) Where can I purchase your post caps?

Our post caps can be purchased from ornamental metal distributors located throughout the country.  DO-IT Best Corporations stock our post caps which can be purchased from any of their stores nationwide.

8.) Can the post caps be painted?

Yes. Most customers want to paint the aluminum, galvanized steel or plain cold roll steel (CRS).

  • Start by cleaning the cap. We recommend using Simple Green®.  Either spray or dip the cap into the Simple Green®.  Use a SOFT nylon bristle brush to scrub the cap.  Rinse with clean water and let dry completely, both inside and out.

  • Next, prime the metal. Be sure to use an exterior grade quick drying metal primer. Brush or spray (we recommend spraying to save time) the cap with the primer.  Make sure to prime both the inside and out. Let the primer dry.

  • Finally, choose any exterior grade metal finish paint color. Spray or paint the entire cap and allow to dry. Note, there is no need to paint the inside of the cap. The primer will work well for this portion of the cap.

9.) How much does shipping cost?

The customer is responsible for paying all freight charges, which vary depending on the size and weight of the order.

10.) What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment is accepted by check only.  We currently do not accept Cash or Credit Cards. Our customers are invoiced and provided payment terms at that time.

11.) Will your post caps protect my wood fence from inclement weather?

Yes, our post caps do protect the top of wood posts from rotting out by keeping water from soaking into the wood and preventing damage from the harsh UV rays of the sun allowing your wood post to have an extended life span.

12.) Can your post caps be used on concrete posts?

Our post caps can be used on concrete posts as long as we offer the correct size.

*Our new product line of Round Post Caps will be available to fit over the following sizes of round steel pipe: 3”, 31/2”, 4”, 5”, 6”, 8”, 10” AND 12”.

13.) How many powder coating colors do you offer?

Our powder coating colors will be available in over 1,000 RAL colors.

14.) Will your post caps rust?

Depending on the metal alloy, some post caps could form a surface rust.  Cold roll steel, the raw alloy, will form a surface rust while galvanized steel, in its raw state, will form a “white rust”.  Aluminum, copper, brass and stainless steel do NOT rust in any form.

All of the alloys, when in or around salt water, will have surface issues and start to pit over time, with stainless steel being the exception.

15.) Can I order directly from your site?

We currently do not offer an online store.

16.) Will the brass post caps tarnish?

Overtime, brass and copper post caps can tarnish, however, both can be cleaned very easily. We recommend using Mr. Metal ®, made by Northern Labs, Inc.  Simply apply Mr. Metal ® directly on either brass or copper caps.  Using a SOFT cloth, scrub the Mr. Metal ® around the caps. This will not only remove any possible tarnish, but will remove any and all stamping compound, dirt, or grease. This will not only clean the caps, but will restore them to their original luster.  Mr. Metal ® also works well on our aluminum and stainless steel caps.

17.) Will the copper post caps remain a shiny copper color?

Overtime, brass and copper post caps can tarnish, however, both can be cleaned very easily. We recommend using Mr. Metal ®, made by Northern Labs, Inc.  Simply apply Mr. Metal ® directly to either brass or copper caps.  Using a SOFT cloth, scrub the Mr. Metal ® around the caps. This will not only remove any possible tarnish, but will remove any and all stamping compound, dirt, and grease. This will not only clean the caps, but will restore them to their original luster.  Mr. Metal ® also works well on our aluminum and stainless steel caps.

18.) Why should I use post caps?

The primary function of a post cap is to protect and extend the life of a post.  Post caps not only protect wood posts from inclement weather, they add a decorative, personalized touch to your posts.

19.) If my fence post is exactly 4”x4”, do I need to purchase a bigger post cap to fit my fence?

Rule of thumb is to simply measure the post. For the most part, 4”X 4”pressure treated posts truly measures either 3 1/2” X 3 1/2” OR 3 5/8”X 3 5/8”.  Any of our 3 1/2” caps will work for these posts. A 6”X6” pressure post measures either 5 1/2”X 5 1/2” or 5 5/8”X 5 5/8”.  Our 5 1/2” cap will fit perfect for this.  As for the true dimensional posts, the exact size of the post is the size cap you would need. For example, a 4”X4” post would use our 4” cap.

The same goes for our rectangular caps. Our 1 1/2”X 3 1/2” fits a standard 2”X 4” and our 2”X 4” fits a true dimensional 2”X 4”.  Our 3 1/2”X 5 1/2” fits a pressure treated 4”X 6” post due to the fact that it measures 3 1/2”X 5 1/2” or 3 5/8”X 5 5/8”.  Our 4”X 6” cap fits true dimensional 4”X 6” posts.
